About Us

First Acoustics is an independent, not-for-profit organization based in Brooklyn that was formed to raise public awareness of acoustic music, be it contemporary, folk or roots music, in Brooklyn and beyond. Most of our concert events will take place at the First Unitarian Church located at Pierrepont Street and Monroe Place in the Brookyn Heights neighborhood of New York City. Concerts may be held in the main sanctuary or the McKinney Chapel.

First Acoustics, Inc. depends on charitable giving by the general public as well as ticket and merchansise sales to cover the costs of our concerts and other operations. First Acoustics is included in the group exemption program of Folk Alliance International, a recognized Section 501(c)(3) organization, which means that all donations to First Acoustics (but not ticket or merchandise purchases) are deductible from federal, state and local taxable income to the extent permitted by applicable law. If your employer matches employee's charitable contributions and you would like to give us money, please call us so we can provide whatever documentation you need to qualify for the match.

Admission to our concerts is by seat purchase only. First Acoustics is going greener by dispensing with paper tickets for most shows. If you purchase in advance on this website or by phone, we will email a confirmation to you. You can keep your confirmation or PayPall receipt as a reminder of the date, but it is not necessary to bring it with you. We will have a list at the door of persons that have purchased seats. There is a surcharge of $5.00 per seat for seats purchased at the door. First Acoustics reserves the right to revoke the license created by a seat purchase at any time for any reason by refunding the purchase price.

The McKinney chapel is freely accessable, since the entrance is at sidewalk level. The sanctuary, however, is accessable only via outdoor steps. Also, the restrooms are located in the lower level of the building, which is also accessable only via stairs. If you have concerns about accessability, please call our Box Office at (718) 288-5994 and we will try to make special arrangements.

House Rules

We seek to maintain a "listening room" atmosphere for enjoyment of serious music performances.

Please do not bring any food or beverages to the concert. Beverages and snack items will be sold before the performance and during intermission or complimentary food will be provided, when so indicated.

Photography and sound recording are not permitted during performances except by special permission.

Smoking is not allowed anywhere in our venues.
